I bought this recently, wanting to read it because a reviewer for the recently published American gay male YA novel, Date Me Bryson Keller, implied that the DATE ME . . . book was, basically, based on the Japanese Manga book, SEVEN DAYS and I wanted to see for myself.Other than the time frame for the two books and the ages of the main characters, I couldn't find any real comparisons. Gay books that treat of the so-called "fake dating" trope between two characters almost invariably have a set time frame (at the end of which the two MCs are supposed to realize that they've been dating for real): Christmas vacation, Spring Break, a wedding weekend, a 2 week summer holiday road trip, etc. So it makes sense to me that more than one book is going to deal with "fake dating" over a week's period of time. Too, both books were published for YA readers so it seems clear that both will feature YA leads. I couldn't find any other similarities.Now as to SEVEN DAYS itself, I didn't enjoy it very much. The book seemed very vague and almost ethereal-like in its story-telling. (I liked the artwork a bit more than the story). I KNOW how to read Manga - I've read maybe 250 Yaoi books during the last 25 years (CHALLENGERS by Hinako Takanaga being my all time favorite) but this one just seemed to plod along with no real excitement, humor or passion.But maybe it was just me? As I said I loved, LOVED Challengers (published 25 years ago) but didn't at all care for - after greatly anticipating its publication for ten or more years! - the sequel series, THE TYRANT FALLS IN LOVE, also by Hinako Takanaga.C'est la vie ;-)
